People are Crazy

I get a lot of loads that are a little more than a day's work. These loads can leave me an hour or so short of making it back to Green Bay. It isn't that bad. Even if I have drive time left, I tend to stop about an hour short of Green Bay. There is a place to park. I can get a great breakfast at the Parkside Cafe. Then I can do my pre trip as I fuel up for the next trip out.

As I walked across the parking lot in the morning, I noticed that it was a bit slick. It wasn't "fall down" icy but I could slide me feet. It happens a lot in northeast Wisconsin. On warmer (32f) winter nights the air can get moist. The closer that you get to Lake Michigan the greater the chances. On some nights, you may even get some fog. Fog is moisture. It can make for slick roadways, like the parking lot this particular morning.

After, I fueled and did my pre trip, I filled my coffee mug for the last leg of my trip. Coming up the ramp with 44,000 pounds in the box takes a bit. It was not fast enough for the Saturn behind me. As soon as we mad the interstate, he pulled out into the left lane - maybe as fast as a beater Saturn can go. That was not fast enough to please the Audi SUV driver coming up the left hand lane. The driver of the SUV cut over in front of me as quickly as possible, before the Saturn could get over safely.

About 2 miles up the road there was a white Sheboygan County pickup truck with an elcetronic sign. The sign read ICY ROADS AHEAD. Maybe it is just me, but first thing in the morning on a 32f degree day in Wisconsin in January, the road is probably a bit slick. People should just know that, but whatever, some people - HERE IS YOUR SIGN!

Within the next 30 miles there were at least a half dozen 4 wheelers in the ditches. Good thing we had that sign - eh? Shake my head. People really are crazy. Sure, I got home about 30 minutes later than I had hoped. I got home. By the time I was getting greeted by my puppy some of those people were getting pulled out of the ditch.

On days like that wreckers get busy. How long before a wrecker gets there. How long to pull it out? How much is it going to cost? How bad is the car? Can you fix it? Did anyone get hurt? Sure, I didn't get much done. I have a puppy. It is like having a toddler. Quiet? That isn't good. Still beats sitting by the side of the road waiting for a wrecker.
