Mail is a huge problem when we are away from home for months at a time.

We are lucky that we have someone that will pick up our mail and place it into a container till we get home.  The problem is a bill or notice can be missed and we have to pay a penalty.  Paying a late fee or interest is like taking a dollar bill and catching it on fire as we gain nothing by this fee.

The US Post Office has created a new service that might help us a lot.  Informed delivery by USPS that sends a scanned copy of the envelope to our email.  This system is not perfect but it does send out copies of a lot of our mail. While we have been home for the holidays I have been watching what we receive in an email compared to what arrives in the mail box.  Some days everything has been scanned and other days maybe half of the mail received was scanned.

Images of our mail are only on letter sized envelopes and have to be processed through the USPS automated equipment.  All mail that is scanned this way will send a copy of the front of the envelope to our email address daily.

I hope in time that we receive a copy of everything that is mailed to us but until then this is a great start.  The link to get this started for you is below:

USPS Informed Delivery
