Real Cost of Ownership
Does anyone know any good articles or other resources that show Real Cost of Ownership comparisons for Class 8 trucks?
It is sometimes also referred to as Total cost of ownership or True cost of ownership.
I'm sure the big fleets analyze their own data, but I wonder if any of them share it? I am interested to see the cost comparisons based on age of truck as well as across different truck makes/models.
I understand there are indirect costs such as downtime for repairs that can come into play. Driver satisfaction w/ the truck can also play a role in decision making, etc. but I am still curious to see some raw comparisons $$-wise.
New owner operators often choose used equipment, which may be based on access to credit, trying to stay away from a huge loan, or other factors. However, if start-up capital or credit is not a problem, it would be interesting to see the line-up based purely on Real Cost of Ownership.
My co-worker showed me a Consumer Reports magazine issue where the real cost of ownership was tabulated for cars, that's how I found out what poor personal vehicle choice I had made :)
