New Year = Clean Slate
The first of the year always has me all in a dither as I end my spreadsheets, end our fuel book, and file the year away.
A new fuel book is placed in the cubby hole on the dash where we write down our fuel each time, where we keep track of our fuel expenses, our MPG, and the balance in our T-Chek account for quick reference. These figures are all transferred into a more in-depth spreadsheet.
New spreadsheets are created for each load that we haul, new statistical sheets are created to keep track of miles, loads, average pay per mile, amount of dead head, also our pay per loaded mile. We are on percentage pay so each load pays different. Our loads are offered to us by total pay that is broke down by pay per loaded mile as well as pay per empty mile. That total figure often sounds pretty good BUT I keep track of unauthorized miles and sometimes what looks like a load that pays ok is really going to have us running at a loss.
So each year on the 31st will find me putting away my old spread sheets and creating my new spreadsheets! A great time of year and my plans are laid into place to have an even better year then the last!
