When we went from a truckload carrier to expedite and we where in for a couple of surprises. The first surprise was how few of our initial loads did not use a door seal and the second was how much was involved with securing the freight.  We were given very good advice when we started "Secure the freight as to make it part of the structure in case of an incident".

Our truck is equipped with the Freightliner AirLiner suspension, that allows our freight to ride on a pillow of air.  We have five rows of e-track, floor rings, and special e-track that fits over our load bars.  We carry over thirty blankets, corner protectors, bands, straps and bars to protect the freight once it is on the truck.

We also have an adjustable tine pallet jack, piano dollies, carts, and plywood for decking, and other ways to move freight from inside a building to our truck, all secured in the nose of the box away from freight.

There is also another incentive to take care of freight, as we are responsible for the first $2500.00 dollars worth of damage.  Much of our freight is in crates of on pallets, which is easy to secure.  We also have freight that is not crated and needs special handling and tender loving care.

Jeff the difference is the type of freight we haul. Our freight 99.9% of the time does not fill our box or even go from side to side. Everything we do hinges on load securement and being creative with our load securement.

Most owner ops are responsible for damage up to their deductible. Mine for instance is $1,000. More important to me though is my re*****tion. My line to loaders is that we BOTH want the product to arrive in perfect condition. With that attitude they will almost always work with me. BTW-that is a really cool COKE machine.
