For as long as I can remember the trucking industry has been screaming from the mountain tops that there is a parking shortage, traffic congestion problems, and inordinate amount of detention time at the docks. So often the industry cries out to the FMCSA to address the problems with parking, traffic congestion, and dock time.

Imagine you are the FMCSA … You are responsible to make decisions based on data. It seems that a natural place to look for the data on parking shortage, traffic congestion problems, and inordinate amount of detention time at the docks would be from the drivers log books during an audit. After pouring through numerous log books would you be able to see any problems within the industry?

The question becomes will the FMCSA see a different story when collecting data in the future?
