Now that spring is here, it's the perfect time to get the truck back to being spotless, starting with the toolbox.

Since there's no sleeper in my truck, anything I don’t want in the cab typically finds its way into the toolbox, which is the only real storage compartment on my truck. Not having the cabinets, and under-bunk storage, of a sleeper when I moved into a day cab years ago, meant that I had to consolidate and task many of my tools with multiple jobs. I will be completely honest in saying that when I downsized storage, it made my toolbox look like a mechanic’s worst nightmare! I decided it was time to make the inside of the toolbox match the polished and detailed exterior, or as close to it as possible.

Having various sockets, wrenches, and other specialty tools mixed together, I figured a good way to keep them clean and organized would be in heavy-duty clear zipper baggies. Although I always use canvas tool bags to hold everything, all it would take is one greasy wrench in the bag, and all the tools were a dirty mess.

Tossing out the unneeded stuff I had collected along the way, and getting rid of duplicate tools, would prove to be another way I could save space in the tool bags. Laying everything out by type, size, or special function made easy work of finding where a specific tool would be when I needed it. I also took an extra step to sort the tool bags into three categories consisting of: cleaning supplies, tools, and spare parts.

On top of the fact that everything is much cleaner now, and my toolbox is no longer a filthy mess, it's nice to know exactly what I have on hand and where it is. My toolbox is ready to go and spring-cleaning is done!

No tool boxes, 2 side boxes and belly boxes. A treasure hunt!

It's always good to go through and clean out the tool boxes. I have two large too boxes on my truck and I go through them every year. It's amazing what ends up in them.
