It is always good to have a network of friends.  Who better to turn to than a friend when you have a dilemma.  This goes for all aspects of life not just your business.  For example, if you were deciding to plant a garden it would be very nice to have a friend with a green thumb to advise you of the best ways to grow the most bountiful crop.

I can go back to my days when I used to race stock cars in which I was fortunate to have befriended people who were fantastic in different aspects of this sport.  I always gathered the best information I could from each one of them and combined it to garner the best end result.

Having a good circle of friends has also played out well for my business in the trucking industry. I have learned much from people who had a wide variety of expertise in everything from picking out truck components, trailers, tires, rate negotiations, image, taxes, bookkeeping, driving, and nearly every aspect of the industry. Much like it had helped my friends and mentors helping me to win a championship while racing, this has helped me to be profitable in my business since starting in 1996 with my own authority.

Often this goes two ways which is when you know you have developed a really good network of friends within the industry. Many of these same people I will call for advice on subjects will call me to advise them on subjects they are not as knowledgeable about.  In the end, by sharing our best practices this enables both of our businesses to be more profitable and rewarding.

This practice of sharing has worked so well there has been a group formed where we do this very same thing in a more formal setting.  The Trucking Solutions Group was formed in 2008 and has had this same benefit on a much larger scale. In the end, it is always great to have a positive minded friend to help you make good decisions in areas that are not your forte.

In fact, that is what Team Run Smart is all about, the sharing of ideas to make your business more profitable, sustainable, and rewarding.
