Technology in the trucking industry has changed more in the last decade than it has in the years that I've been in it, which would be about thirty years. Today’s trucks are miraculous when a driver knows how to use many of the new features. When I’m out on the road, or at training sessions, I’m still surprised about how many of my fellow drivers are not aware of features in their trucks; such as descent control, IPM, or ATC. All these features, and many more, greatly enhance the driving experience along with, in many cases, increasing efficiency at the same time. The good news is that there is a resource to gain a better understanding of your Freightliner truck.

Simply, get the Freightliner Smart Source application on your phone. After you get this app, click on “menu”, then “training” and simply enter the last six digits of your VIN to access some short videos that explain how to properly use these quality features, which are built into your truck. The nice thing about this resource is that you can be assured that all the videos in your version of the app pertain to your exact truck as it was built, since you are using your own VIN.

For those of you who are simply looking to understand some features that your truck might not have, or that you might want to consider in a future truck, I have left my own VIN in one of the photos.
Remember, “You don’t know what you don’t know until you find out what you didn’t know”.
