While fishing through my email early Saturday morning, I saw an ad for a local business store I frequent advertising a gadget I have been wanting for a while, this time at a savings of over 50% off!  Of course I could not resist temptation on this and continued to click through to see if there were any left for in-store pickup, as this sale price was only good while supplies lasted.  There it was, staring into my eyes through the screen of my iPhone, the very last one in stock at the local store.  Clicking through to buy it and having had it set aside for store pickup later that morning, I felt a sense of accomplishment from getting something I’ve wanted for a while at such a huge savings.  I was finally able to get my Brother P-touch label printer and not have to shell out the hefty prices I see them typically listed for!

Okay, so by the way this shopping event played out, you might think I had just scored a new car for 50% off!  It only comes across this way because I get a “high” off of not having to pay full price for things.  I often kiddingly tell my wife “I don’t pay full price for anything!”  Truth of the matter be told, this purchase was actually rather small, but will help my tendencies of being neat and organized in my home office that much easier.  Having quite the extensive collection of files and folders in my filing cabinets, they have all been remarkably hand-labeled up to this point.  Not only is it tedious to write all of the tiny little headers on them with a pen, but also handwriting them out just doesn’t look as professional.  Based on the pictures here, if you were going into a file cabinet to find something, would you rather see file headers pictured like the top or the bottom picture?

Neatness does not always have to be a reflection of the way we dress or the outward appearance of our trucks, though these are also very important parts of our businesses.  The way we organize our back office can also say a great deal about our trucking operations and help save some of our sanity if our processes are highly organized.  I love that I have now found an inexpensive method to clearly label not only my file folders.  Another plus is that I can also use it for labeling small personal items and even on things like the bird nest of wires behind our living room entertainment center!  All kidding aside, this thing is going to make a great addition to my list of desktop gadgets and I am really having a lot of fun figuring out all the new things I can affix labels onto.  If you haven’t already made the investment into getting one, I highly recommend even the simplest of models for anyone’s trucking back office!

Funny! I asked for one of these for Christmas several years ago! All of my file folders are labeled and neat. It is not often when we are at home that I do not put a nicely printed label on something. My file cabinet looks really nice and then... there are also colored coordinated file folders and I really enjoy them and the the header at the top is always east to see.
