Have you ever been stuck at a truck stop for a weekend?  You probably have.  Being stuck at a truck stop for a few days isn’t a fun way to pass the time.  If you’re fortunate enough to be in a city served by Uber, you have other options.  Check out this link to find cities served by Uber.

You can order a car with your smart phone, get picked up at the truck stop and be transported to anywhere in the local area you want to go.  Walmart, medical clinic, downtown area, tourist attractions, nice restaurants, sporting events - you get the idea.

If you haven’t heard of Uber yet, you will.  They are a $62 billion online transportation network company with operations in over 450 cities across the world and growing each week.  When you request a vehicle, a driver is assigned to you.  You’ll see a picture of them, a car description and their license plate number. When an Uber driver picks you up, they arrive in their personal vehicle. You must have a smart phone and have the Uber app in order to use the service.  You’ll need a credit card to set up your account and it only takes a few minutes.

I’ve used it on numerous occasions and had good experiences in most cases.  I’ve only had two negative experiences which were:

  1. Uber driver couldn’t find my pickup location.  They aren’t necessarily experts on the local area.
  2. One driver traveled the long way from Point A to B.  I let Uber know on the app and they credited money back to me to remedy the situation.

There’s no excuse for you sitting miserably in your truck all weekend while on a 34 hour reset or waiting on a load.  Do a little research about the area you’re in; decide on an interesting place to go, order an Uber and get going!

My bicycle does pretty well. I have gotten around and explored local areas with it.
