The Caffcadia likes the heat and so far in April we have had one fill-up at 13.913 for 972 miles and two fill-ups above 12 mpg.  The lifetime fuel mileage average to date is 11.82 and we think it will get better once we add the skirts under the box of the truck.    In our world of expediting our fuel mileage is considered exceptional.

Our empty weight is over 31,000 pounds so we are not a lightweight and any freight over 1500 lbs. we need to lower our pusher axle.   All of our freight is as far back in our box as possible and in over ten years of expediting we have filled our freight box twice.   Bob often has to get creative when securing freight and he has become a master at this.

The dead head to pickup loads is down so we are usually loaded when traveling and while that can hurt our fuel mileage some our profitability goes up.    Our typical speed is 60 mph and if needed we have stepped our speed up.  If we can get unloaded early and be available for another load we will run the speed limit to accomplish this.

With this type of fuel mileage our fuel costs have plummeted and with the fuel surcharge all of our fuel costs are covered.  The fuel cost per mile to run this truck this year has been as low as .17 cents a mile to as high .20 cents a mile figured on a monthly average.

We are scheduled to have the ATDynamics Trailer Tail added to the truck as well as the Bolt Custom Trucks Flirt Skirts.  With the aerodynamics of the Cascadia, the Flirt Skirts, and the Trident Trailer Tail we have a pretty complete package to obtain great fuel mileage.

Bob and Linda started their driver careers after their children left home for college in 2000. Bob started as a driver for a large motor carrier with Linda as a rider. They decided to enter the Expedite industry as team drivers in 2005 and purchased their first Freightliner. Both, Bob and Linda have had their Class A licenses since the early 80's starting out driving in the oil field and hauling grain as fill in drivers where Bob worked as a diesel mechanic. Linda worked at the local country courthouse in data processing.

If it was easy we could let the engineers do it.

I have no doubt you'll be successful. I tried to comment on your latest EO article but I'm having difficulty with the site. I'm working with Carol and hopefully I'll be back in business next week.

Great numbers - I like how you circled the drive load factor and the idle time. Those are the 2 biggest factors that I look at when talking to drivers. We are close on those. Mine are slightly higher. My fuel mileage is around 8.52 mpg. That is why it is also important to compare yourselves to similar operations.

Craig as always we are shooting for the moon! We just hauled a 10,000 load which is something we do not do often and still received a 11.6 MPG average so we have high hopes.

Linda, those are impressive numbers. I will be curious to compare this report to a report after you install the ATDynamics Trailer Tail and Bolt Flirt Skirts. I wonder what percent increase you will see?
