Bob and Linda started their driver careers after their children left home for college in 2000. Bob started as a driver for a large motor carrier with Linda as a rider. They decided to enter the Expedite industry as team drivers in 2005 and purchased their first Freightliner. Both, Bob and Linda have had their Class A licenses since the early 80's starting out driving in the oil field and hauling grain as fill in drivers where Bob worked as a diesel mechanic. Linda worked at the local country courthouse in data processing.
An interview with Linda:
How long have you been a truck driver?
We have been truck drivers since the early 1980s. Bob worked as a diesel mechanic and had to test drive the trucks in the oil fields and at times they would need me to help. In 1999, Bob started driving full-time and in 2005 I joined him. We have been driving full time as a team ever since.
What do you do when you are stuck in traffic?
Wait. Bob and I once waited for over 20 hours, which was long enough to switch out twice. We were lucky because we have a kitchen, fridge, and restroom in the truck. At times, trucking can require a lot of patience.
What do you listen to on the radio?
Most of the time we like to listen to books. Specifically, we enjoy mysteries and biographies. Sometimes we do like to listen to music and podcasts though. We like podcasts about trucking, finance, and tiny homes.
Do you still use the CB radio?
We no longer use the CB radio. In fact, we didn’t even put one in the new truck. We used to try using it but most of the time nobody answers. Most people only turn in on when they see a problem but might not turn it on if they don’t know that they have a problem.
What’s your favorite stretch of highway?
The one we are getting paid to drive in. This is a tough question because there are some interstates that are awesome in one part of the state but beat you to death in other parts. There are also some places are awesome in the summer but not in the winter. On occasion, we really enjoy a relaxed two-lane highway where people tend to be more friendly.
What’s the best feature on your Freightliner truck?
The door handle. When you open up the door handle you know you have a business partner that is going to help you make money.
What role does social media play in your life?
Social media plays a huge role in our lives. We use social media for education, to stay in touch with family, and keep up with other pages that specialize in our niche. It’s a great tool to help with not feeling so isolated on the road. We like to post frequently on our own page and pages where we are administrators.
