I have officially arrived home for Christmas in time to open a large envelope from my second grade trucker buddy students from Manheim, Pennsylvania. The students each year spend some time during class to make me home made Christmas cards. This year, the entire class dipped their finger into paint and put their finger stamp onto a large Christmas tree. These kids can really get creative and each card is different. Some have pictures, drawings and they even write special messages to me. Receiving this envelope is something I look forward to each year at this time. During the holiday season, it brings me joy just looking and reading these special cards.

This year, I began corresponding with the teacher in early September. She explained what the children will be learning throughout the year and I do my best to assist her by sending notes, letters and post cards relating to her topics. They learn about the United States and enjoy knowing where I’m traveling and what I’m transporting. I hope to visit the class in early spring if my schedule allows. I’ve visited my trucker buddy classes over the years and the students enjoy getting an up close look at the truck/trailer. They are always amazed that my truck includes bunk beds, a television, refrigerator and microwave. If my trailer happens to be empty, I allow them to get inside the dry van and take a look. I hear comments like how they could make a “big” fort out of this space. Also, one student claims he could use this trailer to do his Christmas shopping. Their imagination runs wild with the empty space inside a 53 foot dry van trailer.

I would like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
