Buying Fuel = a Free Shower

Each time you buy fuel swipe your rewards card, as one of the rewards you will receive is a free shower.     This usually takes fifty gallons of fuel and the reward will expire after a set number of days.  Each time you fuel with enough gallons you will get another shower credit. There are a lot of nuances to this so read the fine print, how many gallons you need to buy and when the showers will expire.

There are a couple of ways to get showers and I am going to use TA/Petro as my example as they have a great phone app called Truck Smart.   The shower can be booked from your phone and if there was not enough fuel purchased the shower can also be paid for using the phone.  The nice part of this is that an email will be received telling the user what shower number has been assigned.  No waiting inside if the showers are busy and there is not a shower available.

If a team and you want to shower together that is not a problem and many teams do this.  If two showers are needed go to the fuel desk and show that one shower has been assigned and ask for a team shower and they will assign the second shower without taking one of your shower credits.

The other option is to use the kiosk and swipe the rewards card and follow the steps to have a number assigned and pin number.  There are then overhead monitors that will show the numbers and then the shower that has been assigned.  The monitors will also show how many numbers are waiting in line for a shower to be assigned.

Once you have a shower door number proceed down the hall to that door and enter the pin and then the star button.  A buzzer will sound and then push the door open.  Inside there will be towels and a washcloth as well as soap.  Some have hair dryers as well.  Overall the showers are clean with plenty of hot water.

The key to getting showers at most of the truck stops is the rewards card and each brand of truck stop has their own card.  The TA/Petro card can be ordered online before getting into that first truck.  The other choice is to ask for a card at the fuel desk and get one immediately.  The smaller truck stops the fuel ticket is how to get a shower.

Shower Bags Shower Shoes

Heading to the shower and how do I carry my clothes and all the other necessities to take a shower?  Some use a small bag on wheels and others use a small bag with straps.  Most men have a small shaving kit that they keep their soap, shampoo, toothbrush, comb and razors in that will fit into the shower bag.  Women usually have a little bigger bag to handle all of their shower necessities!   Using shower shoes is a personal choice and these will also be carrier in the shower bag.

Some truck stops ask that the towels be brought up to the front desk when finished showering.  Others are still using keys that sometimes require a cash deposit before they will give the key to the shower.   If not sure of the policies ask!

Happy New Year 2013

I had never used the TA/Petro app for showers, until coming across an increasing number of their in store terminals that refuse to respond to touch input to enter my pin. Very frustrating when it times out, while you are still trying to enter numbers!

Well. That was very elementary. I would assume most subscribers to this site have some experience on how to get a free shower. My trainer taught me do this in 2002. But it is nice to get information like this for new drivers. I just hope that nobody has gone on the road without this very important information on how to stay clean!!

I would like to add that Pilot/FlyingJ has a great program called "Shower Power" that gives a driver a free shower each day after fueling 500 gallons. So, if I fuel 500 gallons in March, not only do I have my March showers, but I have a free shower each day in April, also. It's very easy to keep track of with their phone app. I like the lower fuel requirements as compared to Love's.
