The tires on your truck and trailer represent a significant investment. If you’re shopping for truck tires, the first step in making the most of this investment is choosing the right tire for your application. Research and choose the tires that will give you the lowest total cost of operation. One way to do this is by going to the tire manufacturer’s website and doing your own research before going to your local truck tire dealer.

I also like to look at tires on trucks that are parked at the truck stop. I tend to look for irregular wear. If you know what you’re looking for, you can see that some tires wear better than others. Of course, you have to take into consideration whether the truck wheels were correctly aligned to get the best wear.

Another area to look into while doing your research is the tire’s casing warranty. While doing some recent research, I have found that warranties on the tire casing vary from four to seven years. You’ll also want to find out how many times the tire can be retreaded.

The goal is to have the longest lasting, most fuel efficient, and reliable tire for the duty cycle of your operation. In my next blog, I will go more into the subject of maximizing your ‘Rolling Investment’.
